There are a lot of people out there who have decided that they want to be able to access the files that they want without having to wait around for their official release. There are also large groups of people who have decided that they do not want to pay for these files and instead want to get them through the internet through questionable means. These digital pirates have been around for many years, although piracy did not become that much of an issue until the late 1990s. Now, many companies have decided that piracy has been hurting their business and forcing them into cutting staff and production on many projects.
Is piracy still a problem? That definitely depends on who you are and where you stand on the issue. It certainly is if you are part of one of the many technology companies out there who make their money by producing music, movies and books. For those who like to download files until their hard-drives fill up, piracy is seen as something completely different and it is very likely that they will continue to see it that way for many years to come. The issue is very personal for a lot of people.
